DEVILS LAKE (WDAZ-TV) - A state program designed to revitalize and expand homes and businesses in Devils Lake has been expanded.
Renaissance Zones were created in Devils Lake in 2005. They are areas designated by the city to receive state tax breaks for renovating or building commercial and residential property.
The City Commission agreed this week to create a new zone south of Highway 1 between 5th and 7th avenues.
Devils Lake building official Gary Martinson says there is already talk of what to do in the new Renaissance Zone.
"There's been some discussion and some interest in doing some revitalizing, taking out some old structures and possibly building a new commercial building," Martinson said.
The current Renaissance Zone stretches 22 and a half blocks throughout the city.
