6 Injured in Head-on Crash Near Mahnomen

MAHNOMEN, Minn. – Four adults and two children were injured in a head-on crash near here Thursday afternoon.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol:
The accident happened shortly after 3 p.m. on Highway 59 near milepost 296 when a Pontiac Grand Prix struck a Honda Accord head-on.
The driver of the Pontiac, Brian Westlie, 53, and his passenger, Timothy Dixon, 46, both of Detroit Lakes, were taken to the Mahnomen Health Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
In the second car, the driver, Thomas Heruth, 28, and his wife, Mandi Heruth, 36, were also injured as well as their two children, 3-year-old Tyler Heruth and 1-year-old Hayden Heruth. The Fergus Falls family was taken to the Mahnomen Health Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Everyone involved in the accident was wearing seat belts. The roads were icy at the time of the crash, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
No further details were released. The crash is still under investigation by the State Patrol.
