ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Two people are dead after a house fire in St. Paul.

St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press a motorist called 911 around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday after seeing flames. By the time firefighters arrived, Zaccard says flames were spilling out the windows, doors and sides of the house.

He says firefighters discovered the body of a bedridden woman at about 7 a.m. in the rear bedroom. The man's body was found later on an upstairs bedroom floor.

St. Paul fire Chief Tim Butler says the family indicated only two people lived in the home — a 66-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man. No one else is believed to be inside.

The fire department is awaiting confirmation of the pair's identity from the medical examiner's office.
