Grand Forks, ND (WDAZ TV) - A UND student running for the North Dakota House of Representatives in Grand Forks is apologizing after an underage drinking arrest earlier this month.

19-year-old Fargo native John Mitzel says he plans to stay in the race for the District 42 seat. According to court records, he was arrested and ticketed for minor in consumption shortly before 1 am on March 2nd.

Mitzel says he was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over in a traffic stop on University avenue when he was ticketed. He is planning to plead guilty to the charges at his court date on April 3rd. Mitzel says it was a lapse in judgement and it will not clout his ability to serve in the legislature.
