GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Two people are in jail in Grand Forks after authorities found drugs and a large amount of cash in their car.

Grand Forks County Sheriff's deputies found the two when they were looking for someone with an outstanding warrant.

Deputies were watching the apartment building at 419 North Washington Street, when they noticed two people acting suspiciously in the parking lot.

21-year-old Matthew Garcia of Fargo and an unidentified 16-year-old from Grand Forks were parked at the residence in a black Cadillac on Friday at 7 p.m. Deputies watched as the two kept getting in and out of the car.

"(Deputies) observed an open container in the vehicle and of course that led to other things and the fact that there was a minor in the car," Grand Forks County Sheriff Bob Rost said.

Authorities searched the car and found a large amount of synthetic drugs and drug paraphernalia along with quite a bit of cash.

"We're talking roughly 165 grams of synthetic THC and an ounce of meth synthetic and paraphernalia. Also $11,365 in cash," Rost said.

Authorities say Garcia also has outstanding warrants from Cass County. Both Garcia and the teen are in jail.

"Both subjects were arrested. The juvenile was arrested too, charged with possession and with the intent to deliver," Rost said.

Authorities will go for confiscation of the 1995 cadillac along with the cash that was found.

The $11,000gets evenly distributed throughout different assisting agencies.

The incident is still under investigation.
