(WDAZ-TV) - The Fighting Sioux men's hockey team is facing Western Michigan on Saturday in the NCAA tournament and they'll be wearing new jerseys without the Sioux nickname or logo.

Despite school officials trying to keep the new jerseys out of sight until the team takes the ice, a picture of them has leaked out.

Hockey journalist and Warroad native Jess Myers posted the photo on Twitter. It's part of the team photo from the West Regional program. The new jerseys have the words North Dakota on the front with the player's number between those words.

The shoulder yoke is green, with the interlocking ND on each shoulder. As the top seed, UND will wear white this weekend.

The Sioux men's hockey team will debut their new jerseys for Saturday's game against Western Michigan.

The NCAA refused to include the team's photo in the program if the Fighting Sioux uniforms were used. The women's hockey team's photo was not used in the NCAA tournament program because they were wearing the Sioux jerseys.

The NCAA considers the Fighting Sioux logo “hostile and abusive” and has put the school under sanctions for the NCAA tournament. Those sanctions involve not hosting an NCAA event and not being able to use the Fighting Sioux logo at NCAA events.
