GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Police have identified the person found dead in a Grand Forks rail yard on Saturday morning.

20-year-old Blake Christopher Ayling, a UND student from Minneapolis, was found by a train conductor doing an inspection at about 7:30 a.m.

Police say Ayling was hit by a train as he was walking through the rail yard. Preliminary investigation shows he died of the injuries he sustained by the rail cars, but the exact cause of death will not be known until an autopsy is completed, which could take several weeks.

UND President Robert Kelley issued a statement Monday extending condolences to Ayling's family and friends. He said Ayling was a pre-entrepreneurship major who was on both the UND President's Roll of Honor and the UND Dean's List.
