A Bismarck woman is dead and seven other people injured in a multi-vehicle crash on a slippery stretch of Interstate 94 near Buffalo in southeast North Dakota.
Highway Patrol Sergeant Troy Hischer says a westbound pickup truck crossed the median just after midnight, rolled and landed upright in the eastbound lanes, where it was struck by a car.
Two more cars and a semi pulling a double-trailer then plowed into the wreckage. Hischer says one of the semitrailers overturned and scattered debris.
He calls it a "very violent collision," and says the eastbound lanes are closed at the Buffalo interchange with traffic being rerouted.
The name of the 81-year-old woman who was killed has not been released. She was a passenger in the pickup.
Injuries to the seven other people are not believed to be life-threatening.
