DEVILS LAKE (WDAZ-TV) - A Lake Region is the first Native American to represent the United States by ice fishing.

Glen Delorme Jr. earned a spot on the team at a Wisconsin tournament. He now has 11 months to prepare for next year's Ice Fishing World Championship.

He says he'll have to get used to fishing without luxuries like electronic fish finders, which are not allowed

As the first Native American to represent the U.S., DeLorme says he hopes to inspire others.

"Pretty exciting being the first and I'd love to see more natives on the circuit because there's a lot of great fisherman in Indian country," DeLorme said.

DeLorme says he'll be busy for the next year honing his fishing skills and fund-raising for the ice fishing team to travel to the championships.
