(AP) — North Dakota farmers on average intend to begin spring fieldwork by April 2, thanks to the unseasonably warm late winter and early spring.

The Agriculture Department says the anticipated start date is more than a month earlier than last year's average start date of May 7. The earliest average start date in North Dakota in the past 10 years is April 14, in both 2004 and 2005.

Almost no snow cover was reported in the state as of Sunday, compared with more than a foot last year at the same time.
