GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Organizers of a petition drive against a proposed adult store near Winship Elementary had over 345 signatures on Tuesday night.

But now there's been a counter-petition effort to keep Fantasy's in its place and allow it to open, about one block from Winship Elementary.

That petition has 125 signatures so far. It reads "This is an issue where parents are supposed to teach their children about these issues. No matter where you turn, these issues are out in the open for everyone to see."

Co-owner Kim Patterson has a Fargo location and said she will fight the Grand Forks city council if she's not allowed to open the new store.

The council has proposed new license requirements that would make it illegal for an adult-oriented business within 500 feet of a church, school, park or residence.

The Grand Forks City Council will take up the issue next week.
