GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - University of North Dakota Provost and Vice President Paul LeBel will leave the position on June 30, 2013. LeBel notified President Robert Kelley on March 26.

"Paul has done an excellent job during his tenure," Kelley said. "He stepped in when the university needed a Provost and VPAA on short notice, and he has been an outstanding member of the university leadership."

Kelley said he appreciated the timing of the notice, 15 months ahead of the effective date. That will give the university time to conduct a search for a replacement, according to a media release.

By June 2013, LeBel will have been at the post for five years.

The first of three finalists for Vice President will be at UND on April 4 for an open forum moderated by WDAZ's Charley Johnson. The forum with Susan Walton, faculty member of the Brigham Young University Department of Communications, will be at the Memorial Union Lecture Bowl at 3:15 p.m. April 4.

Another finalist, Pete Haga, community/governmental relations officer for the city of Grand Forks, will visit for the forum on April 10 at 3:15 p.m. in the Lecture Bowl.

On April 26, Derek Hall, Vice President for University Relations and External Affairs at Jacksonville University, will be at the Burtness Theatre at 3:15 p.m. for the forum.

After the three visits, the search committee will recommend finalists to President Kelley.
