UND's Brock Nelson Signs With New York Islanders

GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Forward Brock Nelson is the first non-senior to leave the Fighting Sioux men's hockey team. The Warroad, MN, native has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the NHL's New York Islanders who drafted him in the first round in 2010.

GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Forward Brock Nelson is the first non-senior to leave the Fighting Sioux men's hockey team.

The Warroad, MN, native has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the NHL's New York Islanders who drafted him in the first round in 2010.

Nelson departs UND after his sophomore season in which he led the team with 28 goals and 47 points. His 28 goals ranked third in the nation.

Nelson ends his college career with 36 goals and 32 assists in 84 games.

Meanwhile, forward Carter Rowney will return to UND for his senior seaons. Rowney had his biggest season as a junior, scording 18 goals and 15 assists for 33 points. All are career highs. Rowney is un-drafted but could have turned pro.

Defenseman Andrew MacWilliam will also return to UND for his final season. MacWilliam scored his first two career goals this past season, finishing the year with seven points.
