A former North Dakota House Republican majority leader plans to seek the GOP endorsement to run for the U.S. House.

Fargo state Rep. Rick Berg has scheduled five events across the state Tuesday to begin his campaign. One of them is in Hettinger, in southwestern North Dakota, where Berg grew up and graduated from high school. Another one is in Grand Forks.

The 50-year-old Berg served as House Republican leader from 2003 to 2007. He didn't run for the job during the 2009 session, and he wasn't planning to run for his state House seat again. He was first elected in 1984.

Berg is a property development executive in Fargo.

Berg, Public Service Commissioner Kevin Cramer and Bismarck insurance agent Paul Schaffner are the declared Republican candidates so far to run against Democratic incumbent Rep. Earl Pomeroy.
