GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Some of you woke up to flashing alarm clocks on Friday. About 1,400 homes in Grand Forks lost power at about 4 a.m.
Other residents reported outages that were intermittent.
The main outage took place in neighborhoods on the north end of town near the UND campus for about an hour and a half.
Xcel Energy officials say the outage was due to broken underground cable. They say such problems can be common after a spring thaw.
This is the first large power outage Grand Forks has seen this year.
