GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Just one day before the school celebrates Earth Day, the University of North Dakota was named one of the country's greenest schools.
The recognition came from Princeton Review's Guide to 322 Green Colleges. UND has been working on making campus buildings more sustainable.
The most recent is the Gorecki Alumni Center, which the school plans to seek a LEED Platinum certification for. That's the highest rating.
UND's sustainability council works closely with the city.
"It's extremely beneficial, especially when they're starting to get into recycling, which is a big component - something that can be more benficial if we work together as a team," UND Director of Facilities Management Larry Zitzow said.
UND will celebrate Earth Day on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Memorial Union.
