MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota authorities have questioned two men about an apparent slaying in a Mandan mobile home park that has left neighbors shocked and afraid.
The victim, a 60-year-old woman, was found Friday morning after police responded to call from a relative who believed there were signs of foul play. The victim's name has not been released.
Dennis Eckroth, who lives across the street, told the Bismarck Tribune (http://bit.ly/IeOfgA) that the victim was a "very nice lady" and a good neighbor. Another neighbor said the woman was nice to children.
"It's a real shock," Eckroth said. "It's hard to believe it happened in Mandan, North Dakota."
Another neighbor, John Patterson, said he has lived in the area for 15 years and had never seen anything like it.
"It's kind of scary, actually," Patterson said.
The two men were taken into custody late Friday afternoon during a traffic stop, but police have released no further information. Authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy before releasing the cause of death.
Shannon Kuhn, who lives in the neighborhood with her husband and three children, said she found it disconcerting when police told her to tell them if she found a hammer or knife.
"I was rattled," she said.
Her son, Brandon Kuhn, 17, said he wasn't allowed to get into the neighborhood when he first got out of school and he was worried about his mother.
"I'm scared, but I'm angry," Brandon Kuhn said. "Who would do something like that?"
