A salmonella scare shut down a french fry line at the Grand Forks Simplot plant last week while the product was tested for the bacteria.

And until a more detailed test could be completed production was stopped.

Company spokesman David Cuoio tells WDAZ that a test showed a french fry product tested positive for salmonella. "We closed down the line in question, did a thorough cleaning, and restarted the line about a day and half later when we learned the more sophisticated test that there was no problem," Cuoio said.

Cuoio says tests showed there was no salmonella present, and that all food products at Simplot are tested for safety every day.
