MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Police are trying to find the vandals who spray-painted the word "Kony" on the renowned "Spoonbridge and Cherry" sculpture in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.

The sculpture was tagged early Saturday. Crews from the Walker Art Center, which owns the sculpture, had cleaned the graffiti off by midday Monday.

"Kony" refers to African warlord Joseph Kony, leader of the Lord's Resistance Army and the subject of a manhunt. The word was spray-painted in black in the bowl of the spoon.

A Walker spokesman tells the Star Tribune the museum had not received any Kony-related protest information prior to the vandalism.

The Walker trains 24-hour surveillance cameras on the sculpture garden but is looking at stepping up security.
