BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Dickinson State University is ending tuition discounts for some out-of-state and foreign students.

North Dakota's Board of Higher Education approved the plan Friday.

It starts this fall. Current Dickinson State students will be exempted from the change for at least one year.

New Dickinson State students from more than 20 states and most foreign countries will be affected by the change.

Those students will pay 150 percent of the tuition rate charged to North Dakota residents. Under current policy, they would normally pay 125 percent of the resident rate.

The changes come after an audit said Dickinson State had a haphazard policy of granting tuition discounts to out-of-state and foreign students.

The changes affect only Dickinson State. They don't apply to the other 10 colleges in North Dakota's university system.
