Northlands Rescue Mission in Grand Forks provided shelter to a record number of people nightly during the months of August and September, averaging about 100 people per night during the last 60 days.
Mission officials say the number of meals served is also on the rise and predict that they will serve 11,000 more people this year than last.
Mission director Dave Sena is asking for the community to step up so the Mission can continue to help people. He invites friends and supporters throughout the Mission’s 21-county service area to help in this effort by taking the Brown Bag Challenge. He says if people take a simple brown bag lunch like PB&J or turkey sandwiches and then donate the money they would otherwise have spent on lunch to the Mission. He says that donation could help the Mission serve a hot, nutritious meal to 10 or 20 hungry people and give them a safe place to sleep
