GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A group of agencies and health care providers is developing plans for a Grand Forks community health care center to serve low-income residents.
Mara Jiran is organizing the effort. She says the goal is to open a center in early 2013.
There are five similar centers in North Dakota, including clinics at Northwood and Larimore in the northeast.
Jiran says the center will give low-income people, and residents who don't have health insurance, access to medical and dental care and mental health counseling.
Grand Forks' Third Street Clinic offers free or reduced-price medical care.
But Jiran tells the Grand Forks Herald that not everyone qualifies for services at the Third Street Clinic, and it can't provide long-term care for people with diabetes and other chronic illnesses.
