(WDAZ-TV) - American Crystal Sugar Co. and the Bakery Worker's union will resume talks in the long-running lockout on June 8, according to John Riskey, president of Local 167G.

"We hope there will be negotiations," Riskey told the Grand Forks Herald. "The last few times we met, they just listened."

About 1,300 workers have been locked out from plants around the region since August 1 when they rejected a proposed contract from management.

Riskey said the June date was the earliest that company representatives were available. American Crystal is nearing the end of its processing season using temporary workers it hired after the lockout began.

The two sides last met in February, but no progress was made. The company wants the union to pay health insurance premiums and the right to promote by merit rather than seniority. Union members said paying premiums would take too much of the raises they're looking for and they worry about job security.
