Snowbank Death InvestigatedThe death of a northern Minnesota teenager, found unresponsive in a snow bank, is under investigation.
A Bagley High School student is dead after being at a drinking party.
The Clearwater County Sheriff's department was called to a rural Shevlin home around 11:00 Saturday morning after Russ Gilbertson found his son, 15-year-old Jared, unresponsive in a snowbank.
The boy was lifeflighted to Fargo where he died.
Jeanine Brand/Clearwater County Attorney: "At this point we don't know whether he died of hypothermia or alcohol poisoning or something else, that is still part of the autopsy and the investigation."
Authorities say that night Jared was at a drinking party at another house. They don't know the details of the party, or how the teenagers got the alcohol they were drinking.
Jeanine Brand/Clearwater County Attorney: "I know that there were two adults in that home when that party was happening, whether they furnished the alcohol or not is part of the investigation."
Jared was a 10th grader at Bagley High School and had just moved to the area at the beginning of the year.
Tom Bergner/Principal: "He was making friends and was popular with those students who knew him, our staff and teachers speak very highly of him, he was a very good young man."
School officials say his death has been very hard on the students at the small, close-knit school.
Tom Bergner/Principal: "This is extremely unpredictable, in a small town you feel that of us, the students especially are safe and things like this don't happen in a small town and especially to a student, and its just very tragic to everyone in our community."
