SHELDON, Iowa (AP) — Officials say a Minnesota driver escaped injury after crashing into some cows that wandered onto a highway in northwest Iowa.
The Sioux City Journal says the Sioux County sheriff's office reported 80 cows escaped from a confinement in Hospers Sunday night.
Authorities say 57-year-old Alan Oberloh, of Worthington, Minn., hit two cows early Monday on Iowa Highway 60. He wasn't hurt, but both cows died. His truck had $10,000 in damage.
Sheriff spokesman Nate Huizenga says cattle are especially dangerous to motorists because they're heavy and tall, and often will end up on top of a car or the windshield.
Some cattle were still loose at mid-day on Monday. Authorities aren't sure how the animals got out.
