After nearly 20 years as Devils Lake's mayor, Fred Bott won't run for re-election. He says he identifies with Senator Byron Dorgan in deciding not to run for a sixth 4-year term as mayor.

Bott was first elected in 1990. He says at that time one of the major issues facing the city commission was work on the downtown streets. He says back then Devils Lake was drying up, and one of the problems city officials faced was trying to bring more water into it.

Fred Bott/Devils Lake Mayor: "I just felt that I didn't want to commit to four more years, and of course once you start a term the intention is always to finish that term."

Petitions to run for mayor are available...people have until April to file.
