GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Grand Forks skateboarders are hoping to raise $215,000 to build a new skate facility in town.

The Grand Forks Herald reports that the city Park Board has allocated about $35,000 toward the existing skate park and maintains the property. But skaters say about half of the equipment is obsolete and the rest is worn out.

The Park District is helping the group in its fund-raising efforts.

The city's first skateboard park was built near Purpur Arena in 1999, but the operation moved downtown in 2008.
