GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Several major improvement projects are planned for the Grand Forks Alerus Center over the next few years.
The first is a $4 million turf project for the arena that will begin after Memorial Day and be complete by fall.
The Alerus Center is also planning on spending a projected $1.75 million on new visual display boards and an audio system. That is scheduled for next year, but could be pushed back if necessary.
"Sound system they're looking at different things, it was an item that we added this next couple years. That one probably I would say within the next five would be updated. Video boards and some of the displays because of the data technology and it's reached its life expectancy will be the next couple years," Alerus Center Director of Operations Jeremy Linstad said.
Starting this year, improvements will be made to the building's H-Vac system. Those improvements will continue for five years.
The system is aging and updates would improve energy efficiency.
