SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Former University of North Dakota associate head hockey coach Cary Eades is the new head coach and general manager of the Sioux Falls Stampede.

The United States Hockey League team in South Dakota made the announcement Friday, less than a week after firing seven-year coach and GM Kevin Hartzell, the team's leader in career coaching wins. That move came after the Stampede announced an upcoming change in majority ownership.

The University of North Dakota announced last week that it was not renewing Eades' contract. Eades had spent nearly two decades as a Fighting Sioux player and assistant coach and was a part of three national championship teams.

It will be Eades' second stint in the USHL. He coached the Dubuque Fighting Saints for two seasons in the early 1990s.
