GF School District in Top 100 for Music Education

GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Music programs across the Grand Forks School District are being nationally recognized.

GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Music programs across the Grand Forks School District are being nationally recognized.

The school district is in the nation's top 100 for music education and has been named one of the "Best Communities for Music Education in America."

The award is from the NAMM Foundation, a nonprofit organization devoted to advancing music participation.

The award has become more competitive in the past few years.

"We're now competing against the private schools, we're competing against the magnet schools, we're competing against the New York High School for the Performing Arts and so we're starting to compete against specialized schools," District Music Coordinator Brad Sherwood said.

The award has been offered for 12 years. The district has won it ten times.
