(WDAZ-TV) - Construction is underway on a $312 million electric transmission line in North Dakota.

Minnkota Power Cooperative is building the 250-mile line from Center to Grand Forks.

Work began Tuesday near Binford in Griggs County, with crews working both east and west. The line is the longest built in North Dakota in more than three decades.

It will deliver coal-generated power and allow Minnkota to designate an existing transmission line for wind energy.

Minnkota spokesman Kevin Fee says the project is expected to be completed by late 2013.
