It's a big milestone for the Devils Lake Public Library...it's celebrating 100 years of service to the community.

It opened in January 1910 in the Carnegie Building.

Back then there was no air conditioning or even hot water in the building.

There were only 35-hundred items in the collection...which has now grown to over 30-thousand.

The library is celebrating its centennial with a poster contest for students.

There will also be a story time at the library tomorrow morning... a symposium on 21st century public libraries... in the new library and a reception tomorrow night in the Carnegie building.

James Chattin: "For nearly 94 years that library served this community but now for the last 6 plus years the Lake Region Public Library was built in 2203 and it has provided service to the community."

Library director James Chattin says tomorrow's events are still on despite the expected snow, and he hopes both buildings will be full.
