BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Profits at North Dakota's state flour mill are down, but it's still on track to have one of its best years.

Mill manager Vance Taylor says Monday the mill booked almost $1.2 million in profits during January, February and March.

That's much less than the mill's quarterly profits in 2011. Then, the mill was about $6.2 million in the black during the same three months.

Taylor says last year's performance was unusual. He says the mill should finish its budget year in June with an $8 million annual profit. That would be the third-best financial result in the mill's history.

Taylor told North Dakota's Industrial Commission the mill paid more for grain, freight and fuel during the three months. He says those were big reasons for the mill's profit decline.
