BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A 27-year-old man who threatened to kill himself during a standoff with police will spend two years in prison.

Jamie Nicol Nilsen pleaded guilty Monday to Class C felony charges of terrorizing and criminal trespass and Class A misdemeanor criminal mischief. South Central District Judge Tom Schneider sentenced Nilsen to five years in prison with three years suspended. He also is to serve five years of supervised probation.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that Nilsen's defense attorney, Tom Glass, says his client might still face a federal indictment for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Nilsen was arrested after a three-hour standoff with police that began when he fired a .45-caliber handgun while arguing with his girlfriend. He also put the weapon in his mouth when police approached.
