FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The interim director of the North Dakota State University Extension Service has been given the job permanently.

Chris Boerboom succeeds Duane Hauck, who retired at the end of last year after 35 years with the Extension Service and seven years as director. The Extension Service provides the public with information and education on topics ranging from farming to home economics.

Boerboom first came to NDSU in January 2010 as an assistant extension director for agriculture and natural resources, and district director for five southeastern counties. Before that he was a weed specialist at the University of Wisconsin. He holds bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in agronomy from the University of Minnesota.
