NEAR EMERADO, ND (WDAZ-TV) - An Arvilla, ND, man was injured Wednesday morning as he rear-ended a Mack truck with a gravel trailer near Emerado.
The Highway Patrol says 48-year-old Edwin E. Schulz was driving east in a Chevrolet truck on Highway 2 just east of Emerado at 7:39 a.m. when he hit the Mack truck driven by 55-year-old David M. Simonsen, of Grand Forks.
Simonsen had stopped at an intersection with Highway 2 and was accelerating on the highway when Schulz collided with him. The Highway Patrol says Schulz was distracted and didn't brake before hitting the truck, although he attempted to turn left to avoid it.
Schulz hit the back, left area of the gravel trailer. His truck overturned onto the driver's side and slid into the median of Highway 2.
He was taken via ambulance to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Schulz was not wearing a seat belt. Simonson wasn't injured.
Road conditions were clear at the time. The Highway Patrol lists possible charges for both drivers as "under investigation."
Schulz's truck was totaled.
