(WDAZ-TV) - Minnesota's AARP chapter has announced its opposition to the Voter ID constitutional amendment. And some seniors are fighting back.
After the announcement, some seniors have called for a boycott of the AARP. Local residents have mixed reactions.
Members across Minnesota are ripping up their membership cards to show their disapproval for the organization's stance against the proposed constitutional amendment which requires voters to show photo identification
Minnesota seniors make up the largest single voting block on election day. If people are forced to show ID at the ballot box, the state may lose more than 60,000 voters
The website ditchaarp.com is attempting to rally AARP's 700,000 members in Minnesota, taking the position that everyone should have to show ID at the polls to avoid voter fraud
But AARP spokespeople say the amendment would prevent thousands from voting, as it is more difficult for elderly or disabled people to get an ID.
