GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Grand Forks police say a North Dakota woman defrauded in an Internet romance scam has lost $70,000.
The Grand Forks Herald (http://bit.ly/MHnrqf ) reports that a 72-year-old woman from Grafton initially sent $20,000 to a person with whom she had developed an online relationship to help him come to the United States.
He later asked for $50,000 to help his sick mother in Nigeria.
The woman's bank tried unsuccessfully to stop the $50,000 transaction before it went through.
