A Minto, N.D., man is charged with running over a woman with his pickup in rural Walsh County, leaving her in critical condition.
Derek Peter Kilichowski, 20, appeared Tuesday in Walsh County District Court for a bond hearing on the charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury and actual physical control, or being behind the wheel while intoxicated.
According a criminal complaint, about 3:15 a.m. Monday, Kilichowski drove over a female in his maroon Chevrolet Avalanche, leaving her with a collapsed lung, a severed liver and severe head trauma.
Walsh County Sheriff Lauren Wild said the incident occurred 4 to 5 miles southeast of Drayton, N.D., on private land near the Red River.
According to the complaint, the victim, who was not named, was put on a ventilator and is in critical condition.
The complaint said when Kilichowski was interviewed by an investigator, he said he fled the scene to his home because he was scared.
He also told authorities he drank 15 beers that night.
The complaint said when he was tested at 7:30 a.m., he failed four out of six field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of .03.
Judge M. Richard Geiger set Kilichowski’s bail Tuesday at $10,000 unsecured bond.
Barb Whelan, Walsh County state’s attorney, said the accident is still under investigation by the highway patrol and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
