Coal Mining Equipment To Close Road
U.S. Highway 83 between Washburn and Underwood will be closed for a time this week and traffic detoured to allow for large coal mining equipment to cross the four-lane road.
WASHBURN, N.D. (AP) - U.S. Highway 83 between Washburn and
Underwood will be closed for a time this week and traffic detoured
to allow for large coal mining equipment to cross the four-lane
road.
The highway is to be shut down 8 a.m. Tuesday and reopened
Wednesday morning.
The equipment being moved is a 13.5 million pound dragline at
the Falkirk Mining Co. It moves at a speed of less than 1 mph.
It will be the fourth time in the mine's history that a dragline
has crossed Highway 83. Crossings were made twice in 1987 and once
in 2003.
