GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Beginning this fall, UND is requiring all incoming freshmen to complete an online alcohol education course.
The course has been available and suggested to college students including UND for several years.
This is the first year is will be mandatory for freshmen. It's designed to better prepare students to deal with drinking-related issues they may experience as part of college life.
"We want to give them that education. Without that education they are guessing. We don't want them to guess we want them to make educated decision," Assistant Director of UND Health and Wellness, Becky Lamboley, said.
UND is the only college in the state to require the online program for it's freshman.
If a freshman student doesn't take the course, their UND account will be locked and they will not be able to register for spring semester classes. But they will be given plenty of time to complete it.
