Empire Arts Center Names New Executive Director

GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - The Grand Forks Empire Arts Center has a new executive director. Emily Burkland is a former Miss Grand Forks and director of the North Dakota Ballet Company.

GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - The Grand Forks Empire Arts Center has a new executive director.

Emily Burkland is a former Miss Grand Forks and director of the North Dakota Ballet Company.

Burkland, 23, grew up in rural Grand Forks and graduated from Thompson High School. She holds degrees from UND in English, music and honors, with a minor in non-profit leadership.

Burkland competed for Miss North Dakota twice, finishing in the top 10 both times with a platform of arts advocacy. She has played piano for Fire Hall Theatre, sings with the Grand Forks Master Chorale and is a member of the North Valley Arts Council’s board of directors.

Also a dancer with the North Dakota Ballet Co., Burkland has worked for NDBC since 2007.
