A Thompson, N.D., woman was injured Thursday evening in a two-vehicle crash on South Columbia Road in Grand Forks.

According to police, a 2007 Ford Edge, driven by Michelle Berry, 42, of Grand Forks, was facing southbound on South Columbia Road, waiting to turn eastbound on 40th Avenue South at about 6:40 p.m.

A 1994 Pontiac, driven by Beverly Hilliard, 48, of Thompson, also was southbound on South Columbia Road. Hilliard did not notice the vehicle stopped in the roadway until she was unable to avoid collision.

The Pontiac struck the rear of the Ford, sending it across the roadway to the east, while the Pontiac came to rest on the west side of the road. Hilliard was transported to Altru, where she was treated for injuries sustained in the crash and released.

She was cited for following to close, police said. All traffic was routed around the intersection as both vehicles needed to be towed, police said. The Grand Forks Fire Department and Altru Ambulance also responded to the scene.
