GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Police have named the man believed to be involved in the death of an 18-year-old man found on a north Grand Forks sidewalk on Monday morning.
Wesley Robert Sweeney, 18, of Manvel, was arrested on Monday at a park near the area where 18-year-old Christian Bjerk was found dead. Sweeney had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on a misdemeanor.
Sweeney is not a suspect in Bjerk's death.
Sweeney appeared in court on Monday afternoon and was released on $300 cash bail.
Bjerk was found shortly before 6 a.m. Monday face down on the sidewalk in front of a home at 415 N. 51st St. A preliminary autopsy found no signs of traumatic injury. It could take weeks for a complete autopsy to be released. Witnesses said they did not see blood on Bjerk's body.
Lt. Jim Remer said the case does not appear to be a homicide, but they are not "counting anything in or out," he told the Grand Forks Herald.
Remer said that drugs are part of the case and police continue to conduct interviews and investigation.
