GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - A mob of shoppers hit downtown Grand Forks on Wednesday night in an effort to spend money locally.
The area's first-ever cash mob targeted locally-owned Kittson and 3rd downtown.
Cash mobs encourage large groups of people to visit local businesses and spend money to support the owners and the community.
Two local women opened the boutique last fall.
They say they were thrilled to hear about this opportunity and hope other businesses can benefit in the future.
"Things like the cash mob is a wonderful exposure, especially for younger businesses in the community just to get that time to get the name out there and to really represent themselves to the community. It's just a wonderful experience and we're really thankful to have it," Kittson and 3rd co-owner Nicole Johnson said.
The event was sponsored by the Greater Grand Forks Young Professionals. The group hopes to start more cash mobs at locally-owned businesses in the future.
