GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - North Dakota has the lowest unemployment rate in the country for the third year in a row.

The Grand Forks area alone has an increase of 700 jobs.

Recent numbers from Job Service North Dakota indicate a low unemployment rate and plenty of job growth in the State.

North Dakota's unemployment rate for May was at nearly three percent, the nations was 8.2.

The state has seen an increase of 26,700 jobs over the past year. Many say the oil boom in the northwest part of the state has helped contribute to the increase in job opportunities. And that's just one contributing factor.

"We've always had a strong economy. Agriculture was our big thing and now of course being challenged by the oil industry in terms of options of lifestyle," UND Career Services Director Mark Thompson said.

In this area, most of the job openings are in healthcare, education, sales and transportation.
