BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A prosecutor says a Bismarck man accused of killing his mother and stealing her car intends to waive his preliminary hearing.
The hearing is scheduled Tuesday for Dean Grenstiner. He has said he is innocent of charges of murder and felony theft.
A preliminary hearing requires prosecutors to present evidence against a person who's accused of a crime.
Burleigh County prosecutor Pamela Nesvig said Monday that Grenstiner's lawyer plans to forgo the hearing. The lawyer didn't respond to requests for comment.
Grenstiner's mother, 83-year-old Ann Grenstiner, was found dead in the bedroom of her Bismarck home last March. Her 47-year-old son had been living in the home for more than a month.
Dean Grenstiner was arrested in Moorhead, Minn. Police say he drove to Fargo in his mother's car.
