GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - The Alerus Center continues to be on track to end its 2012 fiscal year in the black, something that hasn't happened much over the past decade.

The Alerus Center Finance Committee met Thursday morning to work on next year's budget, which will be presented to the Grand Forks City Council in August.

Event attendance at the Alerus Center has been up compared to recent years.

Executive Director of the facility, Cheryl Swanson, says she expects that the Alerus will have a profit of $270,000.

"We had originally projected a zero face budget, we are very proud of that, we have been very blessed with a lot of good events for the community and we hope to keep that on track," Swanson said.

From December through May, the Alerus Center has hosted 330 events. That's about 40 more events compared to the same time period last year.
