Fire Damages American Crystal Plant in Moorhead

MOORHEAD – Fire caused moderate damage to a tank and roof assembly overnight at the American Crystal Sugar plant in north Moorhead.

MOORHEAD – Fire caused moderate damage to a tank and roof assembly overnight at the American Crystal Sugar plant in north Moorhead.

Moorhead Fire Capt. Chad Stangeland said crews had been doing repairs on the fourth-floor tank earlier in the day, and it’s believed a spark may have started the insulation around the tank on fire.

The blaze was reported at 10:44 p.m. Firefighters had it under control within 20 to 30 minutes and left the scene at about 1 a.m.

Stangeland said the fire’s location made it difficult to fight, as firefighters had to stretch water hose 700 feet to reach the blaze on the fourth floor.
