GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Grand Forks-area officials say it's getting difficult to keep up with an increased number of 911 calls.
Officials say the number of calls to a dispatch center for Grand Forks and neighboring East Grand Forks, Minn., were up 10 percent between 2010 and 2011. Emergency calls are up 12 percent this year.
The center handles calls for 31 emergency response agencies in Grand Forks County and Polk County, Minn.
Art Culver, manager of Altru Ambulance Services, says the company has increased its fleet from five to seven ambulances in the last 18 months, and recently hired five new paramedics.
Lt. Grant Schiller, who directs patrol officers in Grand Forks, tells the Grand Forks Herald that the surge in emergency calls is placing higher demand on "already limited resources."
